Spiritual Abuse in the Church’s System

I'm not a fan of gag orders: Spiritual Abuse in the Church’s System:

"I’ll tell you when I think the system is corrupt: when Christian people sign severance packages that require silence. Those in power are buying protection; those signing are compromising integrity. The following post grabs the main points in a longer post by Jennifer LeClaire, and her points are worthy of some conversation:"

The bizarre – and costly – cult of Richard Dawkins

I'm not sure this really needs any more comment from me: The bizarre – and costly – cult of Richard Dawkins » The Spectator:

"The website suggests that donations of up to $500,000 a year will be accepted for the privilege of eating with him once a year: at this level of contribution you become a member of something called ‘The Magic of Reality Circle’. I don’t think any irony is intended.

At this point it is obvious to everyone except the participants that what we have here is a religion without the good bits."

No High Like the Most High!

Yes, there is a difference: No High Like the Most High! |:

"“I value the Bible highly” does not have the same semantic range as “I read the Bible accurately.” Someone who believed that the book of Romans is actually a coded numerological message from aliens might have a very high view of the book, meaning that he did not think about anything else, but having this “high” view is not the same thing as knowing anything about it."

Like a Fist |

Doug's first point is good: Like a Fist |:

"There truly are evil men in the world, and this is what imprecatory psalms were made for. This is why we have them. There are men who will grin for the camera over the prospect of beheading Christian children, and our response to them should be to pray the words of God back to Him.

“Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: Break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord” (Ps. 58:6).

“Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: Seek out his wickedness till thou find none” (Ps. 10:15)."

How you can help N. Iraq right now

Its good to see our Bishop doing things like this: How you can help N. Iraq right now : Anglican Church League, Sydney, Australia:

"From Stuart Robinson, Bishop of Canberra & Goulburn:
Dear Friends and colleagues,
Having read my letter to the Prime Minister of Australia, a great many people are asking how they might take action."

Not Our Problem: Why Collectively Ignoring Mark Driscoll Isn't an Option

Agreed: Not Our Problem: Why Collectively Ignoring Mark Driscoll Isn't an Option - Christ and Pop Culture:

"What must follow is accountability and general tough love, because Mark Driscoll isn’t the only human being in the picture here. His ministry affects the lives of several hundreds directly and millions only slightly less directly. Most importantly: as a pastor of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is held to a higher standard, a standard which he has managed to systematically lower over time."

Church Discipline and Life

A reminder about the practice of Church discipline: Church Discipline and Life |:

"A church that does not or cannot discipline errant members of the congregation is a church with AIDS. It has no means of fighting off infections—whether those infections are moral or doctrinal or both. The infections can be in the heart or the head, but the church has to be able to deal with them."
